Mushon, do you want to take this on?

The description refers to stopping excessively wide images from changing the shape of the whole PDF, but there's a whole lot of other things that could be done.

(I liked what you did with Collaborative Futures, though I don't know if Adam would like Gentium in the general case).

I would love to share my CSS when I'm done. I am not sold on Gentium either, but at the moment it is the best choice I came up with from the font list.

Say... any chance I can see the html/css that we're sending to be PDFed? It would help if I could bug test that way.

Mushin, in answer to your question 6 weeks ago:

go to  http://objavi.flossmanuals.net/tmp/?C=M;O=D

And choose a subdirectory that looks interesting, e.g:

 http://objavi.flossmanuals.net/tmp/collaborativefutures-en-2010.08.18-18.58.06.pdfC34iFm/

body.html gets turned into the pdf.
raw.html is body.html before a bit of processing.
preamble.html is the contents, etc
tail.html is the back page.

BTW, I have merged your image max-width CSS into the default. It solves problems on lots of books.
